Students will work from a live model in this workshop. It is essential to have a good beginning and to create an accurate head study by simplification of abstract forms and this is better understood without the problems of color for the beginner. Students will use Ultramarine Blue and Burnt Sienna to create a portrait by understanding the topography of the face and head as one would in a sculpture. By using the cool colors to recede and the warm colors to come forward, students will better understand basic bone structure, musculature and relationships between forms essential to good portrait painting. These methods will help the student to better understand how the head is constructed and feel confident in undertaking future head studies with more colors on their palette. Materials included.
