Encaustic is one of the oldest painting techniques and in ancient times the main medium for painting.  Today this encaustic medium fascinates many  artists, especially those seeking its unique sensual and textural characteristics. Francisco Benitez will give a demonstration of this curious medium. Students will work along with Francisco. Included will be a discussion of the figurative techniques of the ancient portraits of Fayum, perhaps the greatest remaining historical testimony to the high level of encaustic for rendering a human likeness.
